China’s Mid- Autumn Festival celebrated

Most of the Chinese students, and a small number of Korean boys, started their celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival Oct. 3 for the first time since students joined the community of South Kent School with the support of Father Steve Klots and Mrs. Susan Bonis, who drove everyone to the Panda Empire restaurant.

Students had a great time at the dinner because Panda Empire prepared authentic food and even served traditional moon cakes.

In China, the Mid-Autumn Festival is always in the “Fifteenth of the Eighth Moon” every year, and all the family members meet together to have a formal meal. When the perfect-circle moon comes out, people will go to the yard while eating moon cakes.

Father Klots, who organized the dinner with several students, wanted to recognize the importance of the day. “In the last few years, I’ve learned from our Chinese students about the importance of the Mid-Autumn Festival in China. I think it was Yucheng Cao and Danqing Xie, both of whom graduated last year, who first told me about it,” he said. “Because we have such a large group of students from all parts of China – Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the PRC – I decided we could not let the day go by without finding some way to celebrate it as a school.”

His support has really given the Chinese students an absolutely different feeling while they are in a foreign country. It also will encourage the communication between two different cultures.

欢庆中国中秋节

大多数中国学生和一些韩国学生在10月3 日开始了他们来到南肯中学后的第一个庆中秋活动，Steve Klots先生和Susan Bonis开车送每一位同学来到熊猫帝国饭店。

学生们享受了丰盛的晚宴，因为熊猫帝国饭店准备了正宗的中国菜，甚至是传统的月饼。

在中国，中秋节是每年农历第八个月的第十五天，家人们聚在一起吃团圆饭。圆月当空之时，人们步入庭院，吃月饼，赏月亮。

组织这次庆祝活动的Steve Klots先生希望大家能认识到中秋节的重要意义。“在过去的几年里，我从我们的中国学生那里了解到中秋节在中国的重要地位。我记得是去年毕业的Yucheng Cao 和 Danqing Xie最先跟我提起中秋节的。”他说道，“因为我们南肯中学有这么多来自中国各地的学生------包括香港，台湾和大陆。我认为作为一个学校，我们不能让这一天就这样过去了，而不找些方法来庆祝。”

他的支持的确给了在异国他乡求学的中国学生完全不同的感觉。当然，这也会促进我们两国文化之间的交流。
