We focused our visit on three areas, the recently-opened display of calligraphy and painting by Xie Yaliu, the permanent exhibit of beautiful pottery and porcelain, and the brand-new exhibition of Pre-Columbian Gold artifacts. We were impressed both by the objects and art work on display and by the high level of interest shown by our student hosts, who were excellent at communicating with us in English and very tolerant of our poor Chinese.
After lunch at Pizza Hut, Ms. Yao and Kian left for home, but Isabella, Livan, and Sally wanted to spend some more time with us, so we walked in the shade in People’s Park for a while and then chanced upon the Museum of Contemporary Art, decided to buy tickets, and saw the very creative exhibit called “Fantastic Illusions” – a new experience for all of us.

整个上午我们集中参观了三个展区:最近开放的纪念谢稚柳百年诞辰书画精品展,长期展示的中国古代陶瓷,和崭新的哥伦比亚前西班牙时期黄金艺术展。我们被馆内的物品和陈列的艺术品深深吸引,同时被小主人对文物浓厚的好奇心而打动,他们已经能很好地用英语与我们交流,又能包容我们糟糕的汉语。
